What is your job title? Sales assistant in Kitchen and dining department
What do you like the most about IKEA as an employer?
Even as a customer a fell in love with IKEA. The atmosphere here was always nice. As a co-worker I appreciate the corporal culture and values. We help each other and can rely on each other.
What do you appreciate the most, where do you think IKEA offers more advantages and support to its 50+ co-workers compared with other employers?
I appreciate when my employer cares for people and their needs. I’m glad that IKEA employes people of all age categories. This way we can learn from each other and use the knowledge for our personal development.
What were your biggest worries when you were new in your position that turned out to be pointless later?
However, when I started working here I was afraid of communicating in English. But there always was a colleague to help me out. IKEA then helped me attend English classes. Now I know there’s nothing to be afraid of. We are a team and we always join our forces to avoid miscommunication with our customers.
Where do you think you have the advantage compared to your younger colleagues?
Personally I don’t see my age as an obstacle when performing my profession but rather as an advantage. Thanks to my long experience I can easily help customers and give some advice to my younger colleagues. So I think and feel that thanks to my age I can contribute to the company.
What would you recommend to someone at your age who is thinking about working at IKEA or is preparing for a recruitment process at IKEA?
Some people may worry that they learn and get used to new things more slowly. This worry, however, is futile. Just don’t be afraid, come and try it. Be yourself, don’t pretend. Every piece of experience counts and if you haven’t succeeded today, you may succeed tomorrow.
